Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as you’re probably only too aware is an infectious respiratory disease caused by the SAR-CoV-2 virus that was first identified in Wuhan in China.

We’ve been putting together an interactive graphic with the aim of showing, day by day, how sadly the Coronavirus disease has spread to almost every country and how it has continued to grow in scale within each country, resulting in the current global pandemic. We’re still making improvements to it but wanted to get something out for people to see as quickly as we could.

Thanks for your feedback, we’ve now added to the dynamic map of cumulative cases a set of dynamic bars on the right to show how cumulative deaths have grown in different countries.
If you hover over a country or bar, you can also now see how the death rate varies by country based on reported cases – although we know the recording regimes vary, so that’s likely to be affecting the percentages.

The map gets crowded so you can use the “+” button to drill in and drag to move to the region you want to see – e.g. USA, Italy etc.

The Coronavirus data we’re using to power the graphic is from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the graphic has been created in Microsoft Power BI. We intend to gradually add more to it so please come back again in a day or two to see updates on the pandemic and additional insights.
